So as I’ve mentioned before here on my blog, I shoot a lot of glamour stuff. I love shooting it. It’s fun. It challenges me as far as locations, sets, outfits, and lighting goes. I love working with models who know what they’re doing too, as the photos tend to come out awesome when I’m working with a model who knows what to do, how to pose and what she wants out of the shoot.
So, having said that, here are a bunch of photos that I’ve taken over the years that are among my favorite ones I’ve taken.

Richard Renaldi’s Touching Strangers project.

Touching Strangers by Richard Renaldi

Brilliant.

An absolutely brilliant concept with photographic results that are touching, thought producing and fantastically emotional.

My description of this project won’t do it justice, but in a nutshell, Richard Renaldi gets complete strangers, from all walks of life, to not only pose together for photographs, but to physically touch each other in some way or fashion in the the photograph. Some of the photos show the obvious awkwardness of the situation, which you would expect, others are so touching in their relaxed, comfortable feel that you would swear the people know each other.

Pixar opens Animation Studio in Gastown – Vancouver, Canada

Woo! As a HUGE fan of pretty much every animated movie that Pixar has made, I was over the moon with excitement and pride that Pixar has opened an animation studio in my hood; the heritage district of Vancouver, Canada: Gastown.
The artsy, funky, edgy vibe of Gastown suits Pixar perfectly, and we’re super excited that they have chosen this area to open their animation studio.
They couldn’t have opened the studio in a better space than the old “Workspace” space in The Packing House, a fantastic heritage building featuring cool art deco style concrete re-enforced pillars, exposed brick walls, and exposed beam ceilings. A very cool space indeed.

Low Light Photography Tips

I came across this great article on low light photography the other day and thought I’d share it with you all. There are some great tips on how to make the most out of shooting in low light, cloudy, and night time conditions. It goes over stuff to do with ISO’s, aperture settings, and shutter speeds. Good stuff all around.

Bokeh at the Vandusen Festival of Lights - Vancouver

I’ve been trying to do Bokeh style photos lately…well, at least over the winter, mostly ’cause it’s darker out and well, being dark suits that style of photo better.

Here’s an example of one of my Bokeh style photos. Taken at the VanDusen Festival of Lights here in Vancouver.

Fearless to the End – R.I.P. Margaret Moth

Fearless to the End - Remembering Margaret Moth

Are you a photo journalist? Dabble in it? Take photos of people in everyday (not necessarily scary) situations? Then the life, work, outlook, and ultimately, the attitude of Margaret Moth should inspire you.
I was very saddened this morning to read on CNN.com that she had passed away at the age of 59 after a lengthy battle with colon cancer.
Now, I’m not that great of a writer, and won’t attempt to recreate the article from CNN.com, summarizing her life and work in one of the most touching articles I’ve ever read, but mark my words, after reading the article, it has inspired me to embrace my outlook on not only my work as a photographer, but on my life as well.

Remember this; every time you pick up a camera and take a photo, or shoot video, you are capturing history.

One of her quote from the article struck a chord with me: “”You could be a billionaire, and you couldn’t pay to do the things we’ve done.” How unbelievably profound.

The world needs more Margaret Moth’s.

Jennifer Nguyen – Website now open!

So, after a long long time, one of my most favorite models, Miss Jennifer Nguyen, finally decided to go ahead and get me to set up a web site for her. Now, I’ve been hounding her for years to do one, as she’s got a huge following on Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc, and it only made sense to set up a web site to promote her modeling, dancing, and start up Go Go Dancing and Modeling business: Deadly Combination.
Well boys and gurls, I’m pleased to announce that she now has a kick ass web site: Jennifer Nguyen. Yay!
Over the next little while, I’ll be adding more content to it, like photo sets (for preview and sale of course), as well as videos of her dancing, the music videos she’s been in, the events she’s headlined at, and all that cool and fun stuff. She wants this site to be HUGE, so come on everyone! Let’s support local Vancouver modeling talent and give her the props she deserves!

Vancouver – 2010

So all of you must know by now that Vancouver, Canada is hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. If you didn’t know that, go back under your rock.
Anyway, there’s a ton of people in this city now, and getting out for photo walks has become increasingly more what’s the word, not “difficult”, but “challenging”, I guess. The crowds, especially around the venues, exhibits, and transit stations are nuts. I’ve never seen it like this in the city. It’s awesome, actually, and I’m totally enjoying it. Lot’s of people from lots of different countries, all decked out in their colours, flags, hats, etc. It’s a really cool vibe here right now. Lovin’ it.
I haven’t had too much of an opportunity to get out and snap some photos yet, but I will, probably next week, some evening.
I did, however, manage to get out the other night and shoot some shots in Gastown, Vancouver, as well as a few shots of the crowds down near the waterfront area of the city. That’s where the Olympic Cauldron is near, hence the massive crowds of people.
I might try and get a few photos of the cauldron next week, if I can stand the 3 hour line ups…lol. Stay tuned.

Found this awesome Youtube clip of what Vancouver sounded like when Sidney Crosby scored in overtime, giving Canada the Gold medal in Hockey at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Watch the whole thing, or fast forward to about 1:15. Gives me goosebumps.
