Ladder n Clamp

Ladder n Clamp

This photo is actually from the first time I used my Pentax K110D when I picked it up a couple years ago. I wanted to makes sure that it performed as well as I needed it to under the same kind of studio lighting conditions I am used to using. I had been shooting with a Fuji S1 Pro for about 5 years and after it bit the dust, I found myself in a position to snag something new. I had shot with Pentax film cameras before and liked their quality, so it was kind of a no brainer to look at and try out the new digital ones they were producing.
This lighting set up was fairly simple, as are most of my set ups, utilizing a single 500watt Lowell Tota light.
I just set up a ladder, stuck a clamp on it and shot away. I wanted to see if the color richness of the orange on the clamp came through ok. After a little post processing in Photoshop, the images came out as well as I expected them to. I’m pretty happy with the K110D, especially since I can use my older Pentax lenses on it that had been collecting dust along with my MZ50.

Red. So striking of a color, no? Especially when it’s on smooth alabaster colored skin tone of someone like Asia Valentina, my model in this set. Thsi set was done during the same session as the other sets of her that I’ve posted. We did a handful of sets that day and all of them turned out really well. She’s such an easy model to work with; knows how to pose, knows what to wear, knows how to “turn it on” for the camera. A joy to work with.
This was actually the first set I did with her that day, and wanted to capture the red lingerie against the primarily white background to emphasize the color contrast. I think it turned out pretty well, don’t you?

The whole set of 15 photos is available for purchase and download here.

The lighting set up was pretty simple for this one with just a 100watt Novatron strobe with a 4×3ft Photoflex softbox positioned about 6 ft away from the model, just off the her left.

I was cleaning up an old external hard drive the other day and came across some interesting photos that I took a few years ago. Mostly from around the Gastown area.
It’s neat to go back and take a look at photos you forgot you took, only to be surprised by what you find in them.
I’m still going through them, but in the meantime, enjoy!

Green masking tape. Normally used for things like masking off the edges you don’t want to get paint on when you’re painting your bedroom, or kitchen, or bathroom, right? What other uses for green masking tape are there? putting up posters…notes on the fridge…fixing stuff…or, in this case, covering the nipples of a model you are shooting. :)

I shoot every now and then for a local Vancouver model named Konia Lee (konailee.com), and while we were shooting a session a while back, I asked her if she wanted to do a set wearing nothing but some green masking tape. She thought it was an awesome idea, so away we went. Unfortunately, the tape that was supposed to go on the “bottom” regions of her body refused to stay put, so we resorted to doing a lot of side views and strategic covering of the “nether regions” by making good use of the extra long brown wig she was wearing for the shoot. All in all, it worked out and the shots came out great, don’t you think?

The lighting for this shoot was fairly simple, using just a single 100 watt Novatron strobe and a 4×3ft photoflex softbox. The head was pointed at the model, from about 7 ft away, slightly to her left.

Just doing a little test from my Flickr account. Hooked up Flickr to my blog so I can see if I can post blog posts from here. Kind of a neat feature.
